Course Overview
Students with a beginning foundation
in German will see their skills soar through compelling lessons
that give them access to content so interesting that they
forget that they are learning German. This unique learning
methodology, which relies heavily on games and stories, works
effectively to take students from a tentative understanding
of German basics to a greater level of sophistication. This
course concentrates on students’ ability to articulate
more and more complex thoughts and to understand authentic
native language from a variety of enticing sources.
What You Will Learn
- Students will increase reading
and listening comprehension, and vocabulary usage as they
learn sentence patterns, advanced phrases, identify objects
from descriptions, translate to and from German, create
stories, and understand directions.
• Conversation skills through
expanded vocabulary such as family, food, education, work-related,
shopping, medical, weather, geography, math, plants, animals,
and directions. Vocabulary is also increased through poems,
stories, and ditties.
• Grammar includes object pronouns
with finite and infinite verbs; past, present and future
tense verbs; genders; prepositions; personal pronouns
(nominative, accusative and dative); direct and indirect
objects; gerunds; imperative tense; verb conjugations;
dependant clauses; modifiers; reflexive verbs; indicative
and subjunctive verb forms; present perfect and past perfect
tenses; conditional tense; and proper use of adjectives.
• This course also emphasizes
intense listening comprehension challenges that inspire
students to understand complex thoughts and subjects.
• The increased language skills
acquired in this course make higher level cultural and
social content open to students who are exposed to some
of the literary and social treasures of German-speaking
countries.
